“My colored pencil pet portraits combine my love for animals and my talent for capturing their unique facial expressions, especially their eyes, in great detail. As a pet owner many times over, both in the US and overseas, I understand the bond shared between a pet and its human.”

Ginger was my first dog. My sweet girl passed on when she was 12 years old, surrounded by love and in my arms. I commissioned Barb to do a portrait of Ginger a few days later. Barb was kind, and kept me in the loop throughout the process, even sending over pictures of the work as it progressed to make sure she was capturing my girl correctly. When she handed me the finished product, I burst into tears. It was perfect – from the delicate shading on Ginger’s muzzle to the position of her ears, her inquisitive eyes, and the white blaze on her neck and chest.
Ginger’s portrait sits in my office, and I look at her every day. I miss her very much, but seeing her happy face brings back many fond memories. Thank you Barb!”

Hello Barb, I can not even begin to thank you for you the beautiful piece of Lille. The waterworks were flowing for sure. The detail is incredible! I did not want to leave it, that’s how much it means to me. It has now became a huge piece of our home, and has put a lot at peace. Every time we stop and stare at it, smile, laugh, cry, give it a little scratch on her paw. You have touched our heart through your work. I truly mean that.
Thank you again so much for making our Christmas special and adding a special memory. Hope your Christmas was a joyful one, and you have a prosperous new year!”

I contacted Barb one day after the passing of my sweet kitty, Roxy. She was recommended by a friend and I knew I wanted to use her based on pictures I saw on her website. From the very beginning Barb was personable and easy to communicate with. I commissioned her to do a portrait of my 2 kitties, Roxy and Stormy. I always wanted a portrait of them together because they were inseparable. Because Roxy is black, I knew it would be difficult to capture her features. I sent her several pictures to assist with the project. Barb was exceptional at capturing both Roxy and Stormy beautifully. She was determined to capture my pets, not just their appearance, but she managed to capture their demeanor as well. Upon receipt of the drawing, I wept. Tears of sadness, but tears of joy as well. I feel that a void has been filled.”

Our two dogs, Duke and Stanley, are beloved family members with really distinctive personalities. The fact that our furry family members stay with us for so few years is heartbreaking yet we accept that heartbreak for the joy of having them in our lives. Barb’s renditions of both dogs somehow magically captured their spirit, their humor, their gentleness, and their spunk.
The eyes in the portraits are amazing and, especially for Stanley who is no longer with us, looking at the picture is like looking at that wonderful and very missed dog in person. Barb’s talent and attention to detail is so impressive. The SPEED with which she can produce these spectacular portraits indicates the woman must never sleep! We LOVE our portraits and will cherish them for years to come.”

I received my Barb Martz drawing of my German Shepherd shortly after my husband’s death, when I was suffering through my darkest days. When I opened the package, all I could do was smile. Looking at me was a perfect rendition of my beloved dog, Zsu Zsu. And with the skill Barb has doing eyes, this really felt like it was looking at me. I hope my dog lives many more years, but I know that even after she’s gone I will have the most beautiful remembrance of her.”
